![]() While you can run most of the MacPort commands without Xcode, you won’t be able to run many of the packages until you install it. You can download Xcode from the Mac App Store or Apple’s developer website. MacPorts requires the latest version of Xcode for your OS version. It is an open-source software project that aims to simplify the installation of other open source software. You can also use MacPorts to install open-source software like GIMP. MacPorts, formerly called DarwinPorts, is a package management system that simplifies the installation of software on the macOS and Darwin operating systems. Mac users won’t find common command-line tools like nmap or wget, and there’s no native package manager on the Mac to provide them. ![]() If you read our post on Homebrew, you know that macOS is missing some “standard” Linux terminal commands out of the box. This saves you the trouble of downloading repositories from GitHub and building software from source packages while still getting access to a wide range of Linux’s best command-line tools and GUI applications. ![]() See the ChangeLog for the list of changes. This is a bugfix release with small changes only. When you find what you need, MacPorts downloads and installs the appropriate software and dependencies in the right place. MacPorts 2.7.2 now available MaThe MacPorts Project is pleased to announce the release of version 2.7.2. Beside building everything on your own (good luck), at this time there are two ways to install Gwyddion: using MacPorts (formerly Darwinports) and building. Like any package manager, MacPorts searches a library of downloadable software. You can also explicitly set it to a number of jobs. Most of these applications are open-source, command-line utilities, but there are a fair share of “real” open-source, GUI-based applications. By default its value is 0 which causes MacPorts to automatically determine an appropriate number of jobs to start (the number of processors or cores, or the number of GB of memory installed, whichever is less). You can disable parallel building entirely on your system if desired by changing the buildmakejobs line in /opt/local/etc/macports/nf. The problem should also be reported to the developers of the software so that they can fix the problem and we can reenable parallel building in the future. If you find that the software being ported does not support parallel building, it can be disabled in the Portfile using this line: If this succeeds, parallel building should probably be disabled in that port's Portfile. If you suspect a build failure may be the result of parallel building, you can turn it off temporarily directly in the port command invocation: Not all ports have been tested for parallel building, and some may intermittently or consistently fail to build with it. ![]() While this makes the build faster if it works, it can also cause problems if it doesn't. MacPorts allows the installation of a number of packages by entering the command sudo port install packagename in the Terminal, which will then download. This means make will spawn multiple build jobs at the same time. If you have a Mac with multiple processors or multiple processor cores, MacPorts will build each port in parallel. p圓9-jinja2-time (python/py-jinja2-time) Add to my watchlist 0 Jinja2 Extension for Dates and Times.
